Introduction
The Dutch Language Union is a Dutch-Flemish organisation set up in 1980 by treaty between the Netherlands and Belgium. The Dutch Language Union promotes and finances projects relating to the Dutch language, literature, education and culture, both in and outside the Dutch language area.
Summer courses in Dutch language, literature and culture are a good supplement to the Dutch courses being taken at an academic level by students abroad. Two summer courses are organised by the Taaluniecentrum NVT under the auspices of the Dutch Language Union. These courses are aimed at advanced students of Dutch wishing to spend a short period in the Netherlands or Flanders during summer.
A limited number of scholarships is available for these courses.
In the Netherlands the course is held in Zeist; in Flanders it is held in Gent (University of Gent).
Target group and Qualifications for admission
The summer courses are intended for non-native speakers of Dutch that do not live within the Dutch language area and who for educational, professional or other reasons wish to extend their knowledge of the Dutch language and culture. These courses are aimed at advanced university students of Dutch between the age of 18 and 35. These students have to study Dutch as a major or a minor subject, as BA or MA studies, or as another subject with Dutch as a major component. In the last case we need official proof of that.In order to be admitted to the courses the candidates need to master the Dutch language at a rather high level: at least at the level B1 of the European Frame of Reference for Languages concerning learning foreign languages (EFR). Candidates will be selected by a selection committee. The Zeist summer course can accommodate approximately 150 participants and the one in Gent approximately 100.
Certificate
Those completing the entire course will receive a certificate of attendance from the Dutch Language Union.More information?
