On September 10th, the Taalunie and the Columbia University History Department are presenting the program Speed dating with the Low Countries, an event which will focus on theatre, literature, music, lectures and film and which will be sweetened up with a culinary experiment. Visitors can pick and choose from a wide variety of activities depending on what they want to see, hear, taste, and experience.
On this day the Taalunie is also presenting Cookies, Coleslaw and Stoops, a book by Nicoline van der Sijs about the influence of the Dutch language on American English, as it is spoken today.
Further contributors to the program are: authors Joke van Leeuwen, Tommy Wieringa, and Stefan Brijs; musicians Sarah Bettens and Spinvis; percussion group Dynamo; actor Peter Schoenaerts; Antwerp politician Philip Heylen; American author Russell Shorto; Flemish chocolatier Jan Rosseel, and Holland Film.
