1. SAMENVATTING EUROMAP-EINDRAPPORT BESCHIKBAAR
***********************************************
Het project Euromap Language Technologies, een EU-initiatief ter
promotie van de taal- en spraaktechnologie in Europa, loopt
binnenkort ten einde. Deze maand verschijnt een lijvig eindrapport
over de stand van zaken in onderzoek, ontwikkeling en toepassing van
de technologie in de verschillende Europese lidstaten, getiteld
"Benchmarking HLT progress in Europe - The EUROMAP Study". Op basis
van gegevens over onderzoekscentra, leveranciers, nationaal
onderzoeksbeleid en marktanalyses worden de landen met elkaar
vergeleken. Het rapport bevat ook een aantal aanbevelingen.

2. CLIF-SYMPOSIUM OP 25 APRIL IN BRUSSEL

CLIF (Computational Linguistics in Flanders, http://clif.uia.ac.be)
has the pleasure to invite you to its yearly symposium. The goal of
the symposium is to give PhD students of CLIF member institutions
the ability to present their work on speech and language technology
to each other and to a community of experts. Additionally, there
will be two invited presentations. The language of the symposium

3. WORKSHOP AUTOMATISCH VERTALEN OP 8 MEI IN AMSTERDAM

De Belgische firma Cross Language organiseert workshops over
automatisch vertalen voor bedrijven die overwegen om gebruik te gaan
maken van vertaaltechnologieën. Deelnemers krijgen een overzicht van
de bestaande technologieën, de marktspelers in deze sector en hun
verschillende benaderingen, industriële standaarden en criteria, en
investeringsmodellen. Er worden veel praktijkvoorbeelden gegeven en
de deelnemers gaan ook zelf aan de slag met oefeningen.

4. CGN-WORKSHOP OP 16 MEI IN NIJMEGEN
*************************************
Op 16 mei a.s. zal in Nijmegen weer een CGN-workshop plaatsvinden.
Het voorlopig programma is bijgevoegd. Het definitieve programma en
de abstracts van de presentaties kunt u half april tegemoet zien.
De workshop beoogt een overzicht te geven van onderzoek dat door
gebruikers vanuit uiteenlopende disciplines inmiddels op basis van
het Corpus Gesproken Nederlands wordt verricht. Tevens wordt
vooruitgekeken naar de toekomst waarin het CGN-project is afgerond
en het Corpus is overgedragen aan de Taalunie.
Een van de presentaties betreft Corex, de corpus
exploitatiesoftware. Deze presentatie zal interactief van aard zijn.

5. POLDERLAND 10 JAAR
*********************
Polderland Language & Speech Technology is delighted to announce the
expansion of the number of languages covered by their range of
language technology tools. From spell checkers, grammar checkers,
taggers, lemmatisers to e-mail pre-processors and language
identification, Polderland's tools are available in over 20
languages and are in use by millions all over the world from Iceland

"We were particularly thrilled to be approached by Microsoft to work
with them on tools for Icelandic, Finnish, and Catalan," explains
founder and CTO, Theo van den Heuvel. This year his company, based
in Nijmegen, The Netherlands, celebrates its 10th anniversary with
flare. "We are currently diversifying into knowledge management,
using language to solve the complex problem of searching. In this
way we are improving upon traditional fuzzy matching or wildcards to
address what is inherently a serious language issue."
Located on the impressive Mercator Science and Technology Park on
the university campus, Polderland retains close links with the
university and the reputable Max Planck Institution just round the
corner. Polderland's management was delighted to take up a position
on the Board of the recently established Nijmegen Institute of
Speech and Language Technology.
Polderland also plays an active role in the unique Dutch language
institution of NOTaS, as a founding father and board member. NOTaS
brings together universities, business partners and competitors
alike in a unique combination to provide a working platform and a
united partner in discussions with government agencies.
