EUROMAP-EINDRAPPORT BESCHIKBAAR ********************************** Het project Euromap Language Technologies, een EU-initiatief ter promotie van de taal- en spraaktechnologie in Europa, is onlangs afgesloten. Het projectteam heeft een lijvig eindrapport opgeleverd over de stand van zaken in onderzoek, ontwikkeling en toepassing van de technologie in de verschillende Europese lidstaten, getiteld "Benchmarking HLT progress in Europe - The EUROMAP Study". Op basis van gegevens over onderzoekscentra, leveranciers, nationaal onderzoeksbeleid en marktanalyses worden de landen met elkaar vergeleken. Het rapport bevat ook een aantal aanbevelingen. NIEUWE MASTERS-OPLEIDING HUMAN MEDIA INTERACTION *************************************************** De opleiding Human Media Interaction aan de Universiteit Twente gaat voor het eerst van start in september 2003. Een nieuwe studie die leidt tot een diploma Master of Science in Human Media Interactions. Het is een technische studie waarin de diverse aspecten van de interactie tussen mens en de digitale media belicht worden. Er is ruim aandacht voor de technologische aspecten en voor het systematisch, creatief ontwerpen van nieuwe interfaces. Bij dat ontwerpproces werken technisch opgeleide studenten samen met ontwerpers en mediakunstenaars. De studie biedt tevens een initiatie in vele aspecten van het wetenschappelijk onderzoek rond human media interaction. Daarbij gaat het niet alleen om de technische maar ook om de menselijke en maatschappelijke kanten. De Master of Science is een van de technische informatica afstudeertrajecten. Afgestudeerden moeten in staat zijn als informaticus projecten te realiseren en ervaring hebben met het uitvoeren van onderzoek. Anderzijds is er in deze masters ook aandacht voor de maatschappelijke en culturele context van human media interaction. Dit betekent dat de studie zich richt op studenten met een ruime belangstelling. Het betekent ook dat de opleiding interessant kan zijn voor studenten die geen vooropleiding in de technische informatica hebben gehad maar een opleiding hebben die aansluit bij een van de andere onderwerpen die in het interdisciplinaire veld van de human media interaction een rol spelen. WEBSITE CLIF VERNIEUWD ************************* In 1995, the scientific research community Computational Linguistics and Language Technology was founded, otherwise known as CLIF (Computational Linguistics in Flanders). CLIF is funded by the Fund for Scientific Research. It has become the central contact point for computational linguistics and language and speech technology in Flanders. In January 2000 the CLIF-project was extended until 2005. CLIF aims to: - Strengthen the integration of fundamental research on language and speech technology in Flanders to establish multidisciplinary, fundamental and applied research of natural language and Dutch in particular. - Facilitate research activities of the participating research groups, improving (re-)usability of data for spoken and written language. The new CLIF-site has been put on-line. On this new site, you can expect regular updates and up-to-date information on CLIF- activities. IST 2003: 2-4 OKTOBER, MILAAN - DEADLINE VERLENGD **************************************************** IST 2003: The opportunities ahead People, Business, Research, Policies This year's edition of the EC's highly influential Information Society Technologies event will take place in Milan on October 2-4, in partnership with SMAU, one of Europe's largest ICT events. As in 2002, participants can shape the event through Calls for Ideas for Conference Workshops, Exhibits and Networking Sessions. The deadline for the Call for Exhibits has been extended to May 19. Defining the IST Event's content with European researchers and companies via Calls for Ideas was pioneered in IST 2002. Like last year, the IST 2003 Calls are open to all - submissions are treated equally during the evaluation, whether they are related to projects funded by the EU's Information Society Technologies (IST) research programme or not, with priority given to 'integrated proposals', involving workshop discussions and research exhibits. Many organisations contacted the Organising Committee requesting extra time for the Exhibition, so while the Call for Conference Proposals closed on May 5, the deadline for Exhibits has been extended until May 19. LANGTECH 2003: 24-25 NOVEMBER, PARIJS **************************************** The European Forum for Language Technology LangTech 2003 will feature keynote talks from leading players, presentations from a wide range of developers and solution providers, panel discussions of key issues affecting the market in Europe and beyond, and an exhibition of applications, products, services and research prototypes. Special sessions will enable start-up companies to promote and pitch their products and services and explore funding possibilities. Demonstrations of applications, products, services and research prototypes will be featured in the exhibition, and the forum will provide ample opportunities for face-to-face meetings with potential users, providers, partners and investors.
